Where to Start When Meal Prepping

September 19, 2016 Nicole Storm

Want to try meal prepping for yourself?

Try these tips out!

  • I always start by making a menu for the week.
    • When I first started, I would make a table and hang it on the refrigerator.
    • This helped me to keep track and prevent food waste.

  • Then I break down each meal by the ingredients and things to prep.
  • Even if you think it's in your pantry, write it down.
    • There is nothing worse than getting to the store thinking you have what you need at home, and having to go back out when you don't.
      • Example
        • Stuffed Pepper (3 servings)
          • Peppers (3 large or 6-9 small)
          • Brown Rice
          • Tomato sauce
            • garlic, onions, tomatoes, spices, basil, parsley
          • Ground Turkey
          • Onions
          • Spices
  • Check your pantry.
    • Check things off that you don't need.
    • Stick to your list at the store! If it's not in the plan, you don't need it!
    • When you get home, prep the things you will need multiple times first
      • Rice, tomato sauce, quinoa, etc.
      • While things are cooking on the stove or in the oven I prep my veggies
        • wash, peel, portion
    • Put everything together in storage containers and label!
      • If you need an extra reminder when your meal is scheduled, put a label on it!
      • This will ensure no one else in your home will take it for their lunch, and keep you on track.

    Happy Prepping!
